In the second of our occasional postings featuring our members, Marcy Springett generously shares a few of her paintings and a short summary of her journey as an artist.
I enjoy varying my style and media among several different artistic disciplines: creating, experimenting, and constantly evolving all facets of my art. My favorite subject matter includes portraits of people and pets, nature, landscapes and pushing paint!Marcy Springett
In 1976, Marcy was juried into the Historical Society of Early American Decoration (HSEAD) which includes the rendering of bronze powder stenciling, gilding, oil painting, and pen and ink work on various substrates. These techniques require very technical, specialized craftsmanship.
In 1993, Marcy received a BA in Therapeutic Art from George Mason University with studies in drawing, oil painting, printmaking, and sculpture.
Marcy’s art has been accepted in several juried exhibitions including:
- Virginia Watercolor Society Annual Exhibit, where she earned VWS status;
- Central Virginia Watercolor Guild Annual Juried Exhibit where she was honored with the Juror’s Choice Award;
- Charlottesville Albemarle Art Association Annual show; and
- The Historical Society of Early American Decoration annual judged exhibits.
Says Marcy about her current pursuits as an artist:
I have continued my study of art, participating in numerous workshops and ongoing lessons in watercolor and acrylics. I also make and sell paper Earrings called “Air Wings”. Examples of all of my different media works are held in many private collections.
