On Monday, July 22nd CVWG members were treated to a slide show and painting demonstration by our fellow member, Peg Sheridan. Her slide show used master and contemporary painters to illustrate the value of using neutrals and grays in our paintings. Some of the artists recommended for inspiration include Wyeth, Sargent, Whistler, Turner as well as Castagnet and Dobie.
Peg also demonstrated a variety of techniques to apply paint to create neutrals and grays. She shared some of her favorite color combinations of Bright Orange/Prussian Blue, Cobalt Green/Quinacridone Magenta and Bismuth Yellow/Mineral Violet emphasizing how contrasting colors can create beautiful neutral colors much like she uses in her own work.
Thank you to CVWG member, Julie Read for sharing her techniques for using alternate materials for masking on paintings. Included with this posting are Julie’s recipe for “Jungle Juice”, information on other masking techniques as well as Julie’s upcoming workshops to learn more about what she shared in May’s demonstration to our group.
John Hancock, CVWG member, presented a critique of our member’s artwork at our April Meeting. His insightful and thoughtful input was very well received and appreciated by all artists who brought paintings for consideration.
